Butter yellow, soft orange and peach all meet in Bracken Glenda, an Australian small decorative with the warmth of a late afternoon in autumn. The blooms are neat and well formed, three to five inches across, with petals that layer evenly from a tidy centre. Growers describe the colour differently depending on their light and soil, which tells you it shifts gently through the season. It was bred by Neville Naumann at Bracken Ridge in Queensland.
Plants grow three to four feet and produce generously, with stems that cut well and a vase life of a week or more. Florists rate it as a true working variety rather than a show-only flower. It pairs naturally with bronze, cream and rust, and it softens a bright orange mix without dulling it. Occasionally a plant will throw a darker sport, a small surprise that keeps growers watching their rows.
