If you want a yellow that really means it, this is the one. Ferncliff Citron is a miniature ball in the brightest lemon yellow, with petals that recurve neatly back toward the stem to make a tight, tidy globe three to four inches across. Some blooms pick up a whisper of orange at the tips in warm weather, but the overall impression is pure, clean citrus.
Bred in British Columbia, it is well suited to Canadian seasons, flowering early to mid season on strong, upright stems and keeping it up until frost. The plants reach about four feet and are prolific, so there is always a handful to cut. Balls like this are a gift in the vase, lasting well and adding structure, and the colour pairs happily with white, purple and burgundy or with orange for a sunny late summer bunch.
