Tromboncino is a unique Italian summer squash known for its rambling vines and exceptionally long, pale green fruits. Fruits can grow impressively long, with a tiny seed cavity confined to the blossom end, leaving most of the flesh firm, mild, and nearly seedless.
This variety offers excellent flavour and texture in the kitchen and is especially versatile when harvested young. Tromboncino can be steamed, stir-fried, grilled, or even pickled. When trellised, fruits grow long and straight; when grown on the ground, they develop fun, curved shapes.

Fruit and Harvest
Tromboncino fruits are best harvested young and tender at 20-45 cm (8-18") long for use as a summer squash. At this stage, the flesh is firm, mild, and nearly seedless.
If allowed to mature fully, fruits develop thicker skin and can store well into winter, making this a versatile squash that bridges summer and storage use.
Excellent for:
Stir-frying and saut'ing
Steaming and grilling
Pickling
Extended storage when fully mature
Why Buy a Starter Plant?
Starting with an established plant provides:
Faster vine development and earlier harvest
More reliable production in warm summer conditions
Reduced risk compared to direct seeding
Grown With Care
Our starter plants are grown without chemical pesticides and are gradually hardened for outdoor conditions, producing strong vines ready for transplanting once soil temperatures are warm.
Well suited for: gardeners with space for vines, trellis growers, adventurous cooks, and anyone looking to grow a truly distinctive and productive squash.
