Black Monarch is a big, moody dahlia with velvety petals in deep wine red that darken almost to black at the centre. The petals twist and curl as the bloom opens, giving each flower a dramatic, full shape.
The blooms can reach dinnerplate size, so plants need good staking. It flowers from late summer into autumn and makes a striking focal flower in dark, autumn-toned arrangements with copper, plum and rust.
