Burnt red on the face and creamy gold on the reverse, Jowey Joshua glows like polished copper. The tightly rolled, cupped petals of the ball form show both sides of each petal at once, so the whole bloom shimmers with a two-tone, metallic effect that is unusual in dahlias. Flowers are a neat three and a half inches, perfectly round and perfectly uniform. It comes from Belgian breeder Jozef Weyts, whose Jowey series is prized for exactly this kind of precision.
Plants are sturdy and compact, roughly three feet tall, with thick stems that stay upright in wind and cut cleanly. It is vigorous, long flowering and holds in the vase for days, which makes it a favourite with florists working in autumn tones. Pair it with bronze, rust and cream, or set it against deep burgundy for contrast. A reliable, richly coloured ball for the front of the border or the cutting bed.
