Grapefruit is exactly the right word. The blooms blend soft pink with a creamy pale yellow, the pink concentrated toward the centre and the cream washing out to the tips, and the colour is fresh rather than sugary. The petals are laciniated, split and fringed at the ends, which gives the five inch flowers a feathery, light catching texture. It is one of those varieties that looks different in every photograph and better in person.
The plant is tall and strong at around four feet, and it spreads, so give it a little extra room in the row. It is very productive, flowering in several waves across the season on long, dark stems. The petals are dense and resist bruising, which makes it a dependable choice for harvest and transport. Pair it with peach, blush, cream and soft yellow for a sunrise palette, or let it brighten a bunch of deeper pinks.
