Big, soft and full of movement, RM Gigi stacks layer upon layer of pointed petals in pink with gentle gradients of peach and butter yellow running through them. Most flowers land around seven or eight inches, and a well-grown plant will push some past ten. The colour shifts with the weather, turning richer in the cool of early and late season and settling into pale pastel through the warm heart of summer. It was named for the breeder's grandmother, and it has the gracious presence to match.
For a dinnerplate type it is unusually abundant, sending up flower after flower on plants that top out around five and a half feet. It needs a proper stake and a bit of room, but rewards the effort with armfuls of blooms. Use it as the statement flower in a wedding bouquet or a large urn, surrounded by smaller peach and cream varieties. A River Merle Farm introduction for growers who like their dahlias generous in every sense.
