Bright, fiery red with a golden glow at the heart, Skipley Bonanza is an incurved cactus with petals that curl inward toward the centre like licks of flame. The blooms are large, around seven inches, and the fine, pointed petals give them a spiky, energetic outline. The yellow at the base of each petal lights the whole flower from within. It is a bold colour done with real finesse.
Compact for a flower this size, plants top out around three and a half feet, which makes it easier to stake and a good fit for smaller beds. Stems are long enough for cutting and the blooms hold their shape well. Use it to bring heat to a late-summer arrangement with orange, bronze and deep burgundy, or let it stand alone. One of the Skipley Farm introductions from Washington state.
