Versa

Moody and a little mysterious, Versa is a miniature formal decorative that plays two colours against each other. The faces of the petals are a rich purple while the backs are a deep burgundy, so every bloom shows a dark rim around each petal and a smouldering depth at the centre. It is often called the darker sister of Salish Twilight Girl, with the same dramatic reverse but a cooler purple front.

Plants run four to four and a half feet and are generous with their small, well formed flowers, which sit on stems that are easy to cut and arrange. Use it as the dark accent in a bouquet of blush, lavender and cream, or go all in with burgundy and plum for a jewel toned look. An established 1986 introduction with a long track record in the garden, it is a reliable pick for anyone who wants depth without going to black.
