This dahlia is a sport of Czarny Charakter, a fully double dark red novelty whose Polish name means black character. A sport arises when a plant throws a naturally different bloom that is then kept and propagated on its own. Published details on this particular sport are scarce.
Sports usually share the growth habit of their parent, so expect a plant with similar vigour and stem quality. It suits collectors who enjoy following a variety and its offshoots.
