Warm apricot orange petals, stained a richer shade at the centre, glow against some of the darkest foliage in the dahlia world. The double blooms are formal decoratives of roughly three to four inches, many layered and tidy. This British classic was raised from seed in the late 1950s by a young grower named David Howard and introduced in 1960.

Plants grow about three to four feet tall, with dark bronze to deep purple leaves that look good long before the first flower opens. It holds the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit and has earned a lasting place in borders and containers. Pair it with purple salvias, bronze grasses or other hot colours for a rich late summer scheme. The stems also cut well for small, warm toned arrangements.
