Golden yellow from edge to centre, Sandia Gold opens in the flattened, open shape of a true waterlily dahlia. Its broad petals sit in a few neat layers, so the bloom reads as clean and graceful rather than heavy. The colour is warm and saturated without tipping into orange. It brings a sunny, steady note to any planting.
This is a tall plant, reaching roughly 3.5 to 5 feet, so give it a stake and a spot in the middle or back of the border. Waterlily forms are well loved by florists because their shallow faces sit nicely in arrangements and work well with other blooms. Pair it with cream, peach or bronze dahlias for a warm late summer palette, or with blue and purple annuals for contrast. It comes from the Sandia breeding program in New Mexico.
