Deep cherry burgundy petals split and fringe at the tips, giving this laciniated dahlia a shaggy, textured silhouette. Blooms are around six inches, with a dark, tightly wrapped centre that opens into layers of finely cut petals. In sunlight the colour glows ruby red, and in shade it reads almost wine dark.
Plants reach about four feet and benefit from staking. Its seed parent is Allen's String Theory, which explains the frilled, split petal tips. Dark, textured blooms like this add depth to arrangements with blush, cream or orange, and suit anyone who loves moody, dramatic colour.
